by Admin 23. August 2012 12:10

European farmers, when asking for grants, often have to declare the area to be subsidized. This area can be agricultural or forest land. The area of the agricultural land is commonly measured by GNSS equipment. However, in forest, treetops and underbrush or any steep slope screen GPS antenna. This can significantly reduce or completely degrade the signal reception, significantly reducing the accuracy or prohibitively increasing the time needed to capture this signal. More...

LTI Historical Moment - The Criterion

by aclarke 6. August 2012 09:55

The Laser that Revolutionized Forest Mapping and Measuring Forever.

It was because of the United States Forest Service that LTI initially got involved in the professional measurement industry. Over the years, the USFS had worked with several companies to try to develop an electronic device that would quickly measure tree height and upper stem diameter, but to no avail.

LTI CEO David Williams called the Forest Service to offer help and they told him that if Laser Technology could solve the problem, the agency would buy 2,000 sets of equipment. LTI immediately started working on the solution that would revolutionize measuring for all foresters. More...

LTI's TruPulse 360 Can Help Map and Measure.

In a recent article in the Baltimore Sun, researchers have linked healthy stands of trees with leafy canopies as an important role in reducing crime. The article states, with “Just a 10 percent increase in leaf canopy was associated with a 12 percent drop in crime.” This is a remarkable finding and flies in the face of the long held belief that bushes and trees provide cover for criminals. This should be the rally cry for every Urban Forester in the country! More...

EMI Design A Hope Project - Slums of Kenya

Engineering Ministries International (EMI) who are involved this summer in Designing a World of Hope Projects in Africa, has recently been working with a local ministry group in the slum of Nairobi, Kenya called Methare Valley.   This ministry group is one of the oldest and well known for its work with children ranging in age from 2 through primary school. They own about 1/2 acre of land near the edge of the Nairobi slum where more than a half million people live.  The ministry has hopes to build a school, church and medical center.  EMI's mission is to help them do just that. They used the TruPulse 360 and Recon to locate the exact size of the land available and to take some data points they will need to begin building. Light and compact, these pieces of equipment have been invaluable for EMI to get the information that they need quickly and easily.
