Hurricane Sandy a Category 1 variety, came ashore and administered unprecedented destruction in the New York, New Jersey area. Like falling domino's one uprooted tree would take out three or four others on its way to smashing somebody's house. In the Associated Press article posted on 'weather.com' it documents the tens of thousands of trees uprooted along the eastern seaboard. 10,000 were lost in NY City alone! Another Advanced Tree Measurement Workshop was put on by Bob Leverett and the Native Tree Society on the 12th of October. This one was co-hosted by the Mass. Dept. of Conservation & Recreation at their Mohawk Trail State Forest in the northwestern corner of the state. Tree Height Measurement Using the Latest Technology

More than 200 freshmen from the University of Vermont are taking to the streets of Burlington, all part of a new effort to quantify the benefits of the city's urban forests. New technology, in the form of iTree (a free computer program developed by the Forest Service), is driving their studies.
