LTI's TruPulse 200X Calculates Heights and Helps Prevents Collisions!

Mistakes happen. We have all done it at one time in our lives or another but as we have all heard before... it's better to be safe than sorry. Laser Technology, Inc. (LTI) has the laser measurement tools you need to prepare yourself and your equipment so as not to encounter such mishaps as what happened during this 'meeting' between a truck and a bridge. With the TruPulse 200X laser rangefinder heights are easily calculated and this unpleasant experience could have been avoided.

This is in reference to an article in "Equipment World" featuring a story about a truck hauling a boom lift colliding with a bridge. Evidently the truck tried to go under a bridge with a 13' 10" clearance carrying a 14' 6" load hitting it so hard that it shifted five feet off its support!

Built in 1957 the bridge was earmarked for replacement anyways, but now it’s going to be awhile. The surrounding community will also be adversely affected as ambulance drivers often used the bridge because of its proximity to a hospital.

In retrospect, there's a couple of inexpensive ways this mishap could have been avoided.

First, by confirming heights of every bridge and overpass with a TruPulse 200X or any of our laser rangefinders equipped with a tilt sensor. All have the ability to calculate height with a simple 3-shot routine. The first shot establishes the horizontal distance to your target, while the 2nd and 3rd shot establish the top and base angle. The height is then calculated and instantly displayed. Conversely a driver could easily determine load height by the same three shot routine!

According to the article it’s not the first time this bridge has been hit, so it's obvious that actions needed to be taken to keep this occurrence from happening over and over again.

Secondly for less than $2,500 (do we want to name the $$) and an electronic sign, the TruSense T-Series look down traffic management laser sensor could instantly profile truck and load heights! Given the sensors rapid update rate the information is relayed via signage reminding the driver of exactly their clearance needs.

Any time, place, or job requiring accurate measurements let Laser Technology's family of laser sensors and rangefinders do the heavy lifting. It's just that simple! Call 1-800-OWN-A-LTI or email us for a practical demonstration.
