The GHSA (Governors Highway Safety Association) announced in a May 8 GHSA Press Release that Alabama has become the 38th State to ban texting while driving. That's fantastic! It's hard to imagine any state legislature's reasoning for NOT passing laws prohibiting texting or cell phone usage while driving. There's no need for statistics, as each and every one of us has either been guilty of or been involved in a near-miss with someone engaged with a cell phone. More...

We have all seen that driver, the one who zooms past, weaves in and out of traffic, and tailgates only to slam on the brakes. Maybe you have been that driver.

Maryland and a few other states like Pennsylvania and Virginia are part of the Smooth Operator campaign which targets aggressive drivers. This program has become a model program nationwide and continues to grow every year. In 2010, the campaign was stepped up and more than 510,000 citations were given out over the year.

The Wall Street Journal article - "Honk if You're an Aggressive Driver " 6-2010 states, “Last year, police officers in the state [Maryland] wrote 207,000 tickets for aggressive driving, says Vernon Betkey, head of the state's highway safety agency. The most recent crackdown started earlier this month."

The UltraLyte Laser Speed Gun is Gaining International Interest

The UltraLyte is part of England's zero tolerance campaign.

The city of Dorset, England, has recently begun a new program for handling motor vehicle offences. "The rural force has launched a zero-tolerance campaign against motoring offenses such as using mobile phones while driving, after incidents including a man playing a harmonica at the wheel of his car." says Mail Online, an internet newspaper publication for the UK. And yes, that is a man playing a harmonica with BOTH hands while driving! The Dorset police department has purchased two UltraLytes to assist in their campaign efforts. Officers will be able to accurately see if drivers are using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.

Police in the peninsula of Malaysia have known for a few months now that the TruCAM is very effective in speed enforcement. They have been using TruCAM units in the Klang Valley and in an article by The Star, Bukit Aman police traffic chief Datuk Abd Aziz Yusof said the camera was effective as it saved time. Twenty-five TruCAM units are currently being used in the valley and 35 traffic personnel from Penang, Perlis and Kedah attended a three-day course training on the use of the TruCAM.

TruCAM Laser Speed Gun Technology Now Adopted In Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Road Development Authority recently purchased five TruCAM laser speed guns that will be used for speed enforcement for the National Highways and Police Departments. The Southern Expressway in Sri Lanka has had a total of 11 accidents on the expressway with most of them due to speeding related incidents. This has brought to the attention to the Traffic Police how important it is to implement the new speed detection process of using the TruCAM sooner rather than later.

SSP K. Arasaratnam, Director for Traffic Administration and Road Safety told the Sunday Times, "New technology equipment named the TruCAM Laser Gun will be used to detect speeding on the expressway. This laser gun can also detect vehicles approaching from a 150 km distance."

West Lausanne Police acquire LTI 20/20 TruCAM

The Police de l'Ouest Lausannois (POL) (in translation: West Lausanne Police) located in Lausanne in the western part of Switzerland, are the first in the area to acquire a Laser Technology's TruCAM laser speed gun to aid officers in enforcing the speed limit.

As Captain Olivier Jaunin explains, "We have thirteen locations with fixed poles at top of which we set our radar - people start to know where these radars are, and they have become accustomed to slow down just before detection." Tired of seeing vehicles speeding up right after the fixed radar, the TruCAM will take care of this problem as the POL are now armed and ready to pull the trigger.
