Also in the System Menu, the next option is for Output Format. Choose CR400 and make sure there is no D on the right side of the screen (left Fire button toggle). Toggle the D on when using the Impulse alone for R/L offsets to a line feature. 3. Return to the HD screen. 4. Connect the MapStar CM cable from the serial port on the back panel to the right port on the CM. MapStar CM Setup ---------------- 1. In the System Menu, set the Download option to Auto. 2. Also in the System Menu, the next screen is the Upload option. Choose Appnd, which will insert the Azimuth reading into the string. 3. Connect the download cable from the left port on the CM to the proper External Sensor port on the Pro XL, XR or XRS system: TDC1: the short, "ESP" cable coming from the receiver pack TDC2: one of the DB9 ports on top of the data collector TSC1: either Top or Bottom port of the data collector 4. Remember to position the GPS antenna at least 18 cm (7") above the top of the CM using the short rod section and quick-release connector. Secure the antenna wire in a fixed location on the system. 5. Perform a calibration once ALL equipment is in place. 6. In the North SEL menu, ensure the Declination (d) and Absolute (A) are set to 0.0 (zero) deg. and return to the North compass loop. MapStar AE Setup ---------------- 1. In the System Menu, set the Download option to Auto. 2. Also in the System Menu, the next screen is the Upload option. Choose Appnd, which will insert the Angle reading into the string. 3. Also in the System Menu, set the data output format to Cr400. 4. Connect the download cable from the Data port on the AE to either the Top or Bottom port on the TSC1. 5. Reference the AE to a known Azimuth at every setup point. You can use the Way Point Navigation function in Asset Surveyor to do this, just make sure the distance between your 2 points is >300 m (1000'). Pro XL, XR, XRS Setup --------------------- 1. In the Configuration Menu (TSC1) or the Utilities Menu (TDC1, TDC2), choose External Sensors and highlight Laser - pressing ENTER to give it a check mark. 2. Press F1 (Setup) and choose Criterion 400 as the instrument type, Auto Connect - YES and the Top port (TSC1 only). Press OK to accept. 3. From the External Sensor screen, press F2 (Status) and fire a shot with the Laser system. You should see the data come through and populate the fields on the screen. 4. From the Configuration menu, choose Units and Display and set the North Ref. to True (North Azimuth) and Magnetic Decl. to Auto. Now, the Azimuth you see on the MapStar CM will differ by the amount of your local declination from the Azimuth displayed in the Trimble Data Collector. *** It is advisable to "check in" on a known Azimuth prior to data collection. If using two points logged with the Pro X? GPS, use a baseline of at least 300 m (yd). If there is a small rotation to be applied, enter it in the N SEL menu of the CM as an Absolute (A) offset. All of the above parameters will be saved in memory when you shut down the individual devices. If you lose communication at any time, go through this check list again to make sure all settings are correct, battery power is sufficient and that all cables are connected properly.
