Woodland Park Zoo Receives a Mapping Promotion with Laser Offset Mapping

by TNyland 8. July 2019 10:24

Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington ranks second for exhibition honors by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, opening their 92-acre of impeccable exhibit doors to over 1.3 million guests each year. There is no doubt that Woodland Park Zoo constantly evolves their exhibits to achieve such a high number of honors, and achieving these honor-worthy exhibits is no easy task. Every new exhibit requires modifications to the zoo's infrastructure including possible irrigation valves, water lines, and underground gas line changes.

"With every new exhibit comes changes in how the utilities and infrastructure are laid out," said lead gardener Dann Block.

Previously, Block had to acquire measurements within the exhibit when planning infrastructure changes for a new exhibit, limiting animals to their sleeping quarters which caused disruption to their daily routines.

Among the struggle to minimize disruptions for the zoo’s animals, Block was dealing with outdated maps and blueprints. Using hand drawn 1950s maps, CAD, and as-builts, mixed with several tools used for location intelligence over the years, created a questionable map of the zoo's true infrastructure. Block found himself digging holes only to discover an unexpected object in his path far too often, pursuing Block to create a new, and accurate depiction of the zoo. More...

Seiler Instruments: The Pioneer of Surveying Equipment

by TNyland 31. October 2018 09:38

Laser Technology, Inc. (LTI), Premier Authorized Dealer, Seiler Instruments, has been an innovator in surveying equipment for over seventy years. Seiler Instruments' excellence in producing quality products and maintaining customer-facing solutions to deliver satisfying experiences, has made Seiler Geospatial Division one of the largest suppliers of brand name surveying and supply equipment in the Midwest!

Seiler Instruments started out like any great immigration story. Leaving his German homeland, Eric H. Seiler made the decision to uproot his life and move to a then foreign land, only bringing with him a few necessities and his expertise and love for machining and instrument making.

Throughout the years, Eric H. Seiler had to evolve in an ever-changing market where his manually operated products were now being replaced by machines. This caused Seiler to start diversifying his portfolio and expanded his empire to five divisions: Seiler Geospatial, Seiler Design Solutions, Seiler Manufacturing, Seiler Medical and Seiler Planetarium.

Seiler's appreciation for superiority in craftmanship and his customer facing approach throughout the years established the company’s philosophical foundation of quality and customer service. Even proceeding Eric H. Seiler's death in 1981, this philosophy has remained the driving force of this family-owned company.

#LaserGIS for All comes to the 2018 Intergeo Conference: High accuracy laser mapping is now possible for anyone!

by TNyland 6. September 2018 07:57

Collecting, manipulating and analyzing GIS data is far from being easy and inexpensive. There are many challenges that professionals continue to face, including: equipment and software licensing costs, tedious workflows, training for existing and new staff, software compatibility, and more. Now with increased regulations for high-accuracy positioning data regardless if you can obtain a RTK signal or not – it's leaving professionals with limited options until now.

During this year's upcoming INTERGEO Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, October 16-18 at Frankfurt Exhibition centre in Hall 12, Laser Technology, Inc. will be demonstrating how #LaserGIS is really for anyone in the GIS marketplace. Measurement professionals shouldn't have to make a new investment in equipment, software or change already established procedures to maintain a high degree of position accuracy in areas where RTK doesn't work.
