Laser Technology, Inc. and Juniper Systems Team up for Log Deck Volume Campaign

Laser Technology, Inc. (LTI) and Juniper Systems are teaming up to co-promote a campaign giving everyone up to three chances to win a complete laser-based log deck volume solution. The package includes an LTI TruPulse® 360R laser rangefinder, LTI Log Deck Volume Solution software as well as Juniper System’s most recently released handheld, rugged data collector called the Archer® 2.

The laser rangefinder is capable of acquiring distance, inclination and azimuth measurements directly to critical points along the deck. The software converts the length and width measurements of the deck along with the data about log species, length and diameter into an accurate assessment of volume in board feet.

There are also several mapping methods that utilize the TruPulse 360R including one that can account for uneven ground and a method that works on closed decks, allowing the users to enter in specific factors about the inventory.

Log Deck software runs on Juniper System's Allegro and Archer data collectors. The data string from the laser rangefinder can be transferred into the handheld data collector via a serial port or Bluetooth®.

Users such as John Calkins, a log scaler for Simpson Lumber Company in Washington, the staff from Resource Supply, LLC in Oregon and others can speak firsthand about the advantages of using this laser-based system versus conventional methods. Previously, the process required two people to verify distances and heights with a tape wheel and height rod around uneven ground, which led to unreliable results and significant safety risks. LTI’s new technology allows for one person to safely collect accurate data in less time than older methods.

In an effort to spread the word about this highly repeatable, easy to use log deck volume system, LTI and Juniper Systems have developed a program that will demonstrate how it works and also give anyone up to three chances to win a complete system.
