Evolving Tech Has Shifted How Investigators Reconstruct a Crash Scene

The constant change in our human infrastructure in developing a modernized autonomous society is affecting the frequency and types of traffic crashes investigators will come to see. To stay relevant, we must change with the world: altering procedures, replacing outdated equipment, and furthering our education and/or trainings. Investigators have been transferring from the old school method of documenting a scene with a tape measure and wheel, into the digital age of lasers, scanners, drones, and mapping software.

Clearing and documenting a crash scene are both equally important procedures that need to happen after a traffic crash. Officers and investigators are under a lot of pressure to document a scene as quickly, accurately, and effectively as possible, as no one incident is the end as the risk of secondary crashes are a dominant threat. Thirteenth Ken Jordan Award for Excellence in DUI Enforcement

Ken Jordan was a DUI Colorado Springs Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty on December 4, 2006. Jordan responded to help two other officers with a traffic stop. As he approached the stopped car to evaluate the suspect of driving under the influence, the driver pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

To honor Officer Jordan's life and work, the Ken Jordan Award for Excellence in DUI Enforcement was created by the Pikes Peak Region DUI Task Force. This award honors a law enforcement officer that has been recognized by their peers as an individual who regularly goes the extra mile in DUI enforcement. More...

EDR Summit 2019

Drones are becoming the latest craze for all types of industries, hobbyists, and educators. Whatever your drone will be used for, there are rules and regulations one must follow before you can officially prepare your drone for takeoff.

The first step is to register your drone. All drones must be registered unless your drone weighs under 0.55 pounds. If you are caught with an unregistered drone, civil penalties can cost up to $27,500, and criminal penalties can cost up to $250,000 and up to three years in jail. More...

New Ohio Traffic Laws Are Aiming to Reduce Distracted Drivers

Distracted driving killed one person every two and a half hours in 2016. According to the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), 3,450 people were killed by distracted driving in 2016.

On October 29, 2018, Ohio's House Bill 95 went into effect. With this bill, law enforcement officers are not required to prove that a driver is texting while operating a vehicle, but only that a moving violation has occurred, and/or that the driver was distracted at the time. More...
