Police in Slovenia Use TruCAM to Enforce Safe Distance Between Vehicles

Slovenian news outlets report that their police force is now heavily equipped with Laser Technology's all-in-one handheld laser-based video and photo camera, the TruCAM®. Aside from being the most sophisticated speed enforcement tool available, LTI has patented technology that measures the time and distance between vehicles for tailgating violations. The LTI 20/20 TruCAM is able to acquire these critical measurements and back it up with video and photographic evidence.

LTI 20/20 TruCAM®

Commonly referred to as the "safety distance" in Slovenia, the distance between cars (DBC), or lack thereof, is a common causes of accidents on roadways around the world. Close traveling distances is often an issue on highways or on roads where speeds are generally higher. Multi-car accidents occur when one or more drivers fail to leave a safe stopping distance to the car in front of them. Slovenian law states that the time it takes to travel to the vehicle in front of you at any speed should be two seconds, which the LTI TruCAM can measure and provide visual evidence to go with the measurement.

A citizen who received a citation for the newly enforced law speaks out about his experience. "I received a blue envelope from the Ministry of the Interior, or the domestic police. When I opened the envelope I was surprised that the ticket was not for speeding but for too short safety distance between cars. I received ticket about a week after the actual offense; the amount I have to pay is 200 euros within eight days."

Police are using the LTI 20/20 TruCAM to regulate personal and commercial vehicles and hope that the high visibility enforcement will bring down high death and injury rates. Officials state that the numbers have gone down and prove that TruCAM with the upgraded DBC firmware is a step in the right direction.
